A song about some tough places many of us are in right now. Conceived in March 2020 and produced on and off until August.
100% of proceeds from purchases and streams of this track made by October 1st, plus $300, will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI, nami.org). NAMI is an important organization that works tirelessly to erase mental health stigmas, to provide support to those in need, and to advocate for public policy to prioritize intervention over incarceration. I am proud to support them in these challenging times and hope that you will too.
lyrics
Forty days and nights of total isolation
Spent wondering if each day will be the final stand-off
You close your eyes but can't stop watching
Nod and smile and keep on walking
And still I'm in the here and now
But the faces ask me how
And the faces look just like you do
I'll fall into a groove
And the faces might approve
But the faces look just like you do
Once you felt secure, but really did you ever
Or is that what you tell yourself to make the present miserable?
You're such a chore to deal with, aren't you?
It always has to be about you
I try to focus on the now
But the faces ask me how
And the faces look just like you do
I'll fall into a groove
And the faces might approve
But the faces look just like you do
She told you to keep in mind all of the wonderful things you have done
The taunt swirls around in your head
You'd be better off gone
Than the next washed-up know-it-all, rambling:
"I invented the next big thing before it happened"
"Someone clearly heard me talking and took it away"
"My problem is that no one can see my genius"
"It's such an unjust world that we live in today"
You're one step closer to your freedom
Go ahead, they're right behind you
I try to focus on the now
But the faces ask me how
And the faces look just like you do
I'll fall into a groove
And the faces might approve
But the faces look just like you do
Try to focus on the now
But the faces ask me how
And the faces look just like you do
I'll fall into a groove
But the faces might approve
And the faces look just like you do
Just like you do
